This program offers specialized support, including emergency necessities and workshops, for our parenting youth. At any given time approximately a third of our clients are young parents, who face additional obstacles and need targeted interventions to reach their goals. CLNY sent one of our social workers to specialized training so she could facilitate an evidence-based support group called Parenting Journey. CLNY holds Parenting Journey cohorts several times a year to both our own clients as well as other parents with lived experience working with our nonprofit partners. While 10% of all newborns are reported to child protective services by age three, this rate significantly increases to 53% among children born to mothers who have experienced foster care. In 2024, only 5% of City Living youth had an active child protective case, and our social work team works diligently to ensure these cases don’t end in removal from the home and/or termination of parental rights.
