Education can open doors to stable careers and greater financial independence. Our social workers discuss educational goals with each young person and help them explore how further study could support the future they envision. Some pursue a high school equivalency credential; others work toward a college degree, and some continue on to graduate study.
These goals can be difficult to reach without steady support. A 2025 review of research found that only 8%–12% of young people with foster care experience earn a two- or four-year degree by their mid- to late twenties. City Living NY’s Education Program helps participants address barriers and stay connected to their academic goals from enrollment through graduation.
